Summary: Featured speakers/guests:
The stories and the video of the Standing Rock Sioux and others gathered to defend their ground and their water against the Dakota Access Pipeline have finally reached the national stage. But for months, a very similar struggle has been fought and continues to be fought by landowners and activists in Iowa who are also being affected by the pipeline. This edition of Sprouts will tell that story, with audio gathered by Pacifica affiliate KHOI in Ames, Iowa.

This show answers the questions, why hasn't the nation heard about this pipeline before?
- Is it just as bad as Keystone? (yes)
- What are the details? How will it impact water?

We hear the voices of
- farmland owners whose land was seized using "eminent domain".
- nonviolent resistors who were arrested, how they felt relief after months of struggle.
- their reflections on whiteness.
- a lawyer from Science, Environment and Health Network who realized, through her work with native activists, that the "precautionary principle" is really the 7th-generation rule.
- her practice of emergency law in N.D.
- the formation of a "Sacred Stone Annex" along the Des Moines River
Carolyn Raffensperger, Dick and Judy Lamb, Julia Slocum, Mary Sand
