A native of Californias San Joaquin Valley, Diana Garcia was born in Camp CPC, a farm labor camp owned by the California Packing Corporation. She received her MFA from San Diego State University. A professor at California State University, Monterey Bay, she co-directs the Creative Writing and Social Action Program. Her poetry, fiction, and essays are included in several anthologies, among them Under the Fifth Sun: Latino Literature from California; Touching the Fire: 15 Poets of Today's Latino Renaissance; Pieces of the Heart: New Chicano Fiction; and Placing the Academy. She co-edited the 2009 award-winning anthology Fire and Ink: An Anthology of Social Action Writing. Her collection of poetry, When Living Was a Labor Camp (University of Arizona Press, 2000), was selected as an American Book Award winner in 2001.
