Indran Amirthanayagam is Public Affairs Counselor at the US Embassy in Port au Prince. He has served as Regional Environment Officer for South America, Public Affairs Officer in Vancouver, Monterrey and Chennai, Environment, Science, Technology and Health/Consular Officer in Mexico City, Pol/GSO in Abidjan, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer in Brussels, and Junior Officer in Buenos Aires.
He writes poetry and essays in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Haitian Creole. He has published eleven poetry collections thus far, including The Elephants of Reckoning (Hanging Loose Press, NY, 1993) which won the 1994 Paterson Prize in the United States and The Splintered Face: Tsunami Poems (Hanging Loose Press, NY, 2008) A collection of French poems, Aller-Retour au Bord de La Mer, was published by Legs Editions (Port au Prince, December 2014). HIs latest in English is Uncivil War (Tsar Collections, 2013), and in Spanish, Ventana Azul (El Tapiz del Unicornio, Mexico City, 2016
