Summary: Featured speakers/guests:
Congressional Republicans are still racing to figure out how to pass a short-term stopgap spending bill to keep the U.S. Government from shutting down beginning on Friday. A bill passed by the House includes support for the currently-expired Children's Healthcare Insurance Program (CHIP), but does not an extension for some 800,000 kids of immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Once again, rather than including a fix to DACA, Republicans are using children as human shields to try and force Democrats to vote with them. Sick of this sort of BS? If so, you can theoretically do something about it this year at the ballot box. But the GOP's stolen U.S. Supreme Court isn't making it easy, staying a landmark ruling to re-draw North Carolinas unconstitutionally gerrymandered districts -- just one of the ways that Republicans hope to keep cheating voters in hopes of hanging on to power in 2018. BARBARA ARNWINE, longtime Executive Director of the National Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law, President and Founder of the Transformative Justice Coalition, and now the Co-chair of the newly-formed "National Commission for Voter Justice", explains the Commission's mission to educate voters and investigate voter suppression, the "wicked" SCOTUS ruling on NC maps and other recent voting rights issues, and details many of the threats to democracy that must still be overcome more than sixty years after Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his landmark "Give Us the Ballot" address. Plus: speaking of what Republicans will do to get and hang on to power, four convicted Republican criminals have declared their intention to run for seats in the U.S. House and Senate in 2018...  Brad Friedman, Barbara Arnwine, Desi Doyen
