In this episode of from the Vault I will be speaking with musicians Frank Bulldog Aragon and David Gomez about our experiences putting together the Say It Loud: New Songs for Peace album for the Pacifica Radio Archives first National fundrive in November 2002. We created original music and beats and set them to the lyrics of the rich history of Pacific Radio Archives recordings

Heres an example we put this original music to a speech by then Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, who spoke out against the George W. Bush Administrations response to the 9-11 terrorist strikes in 2001.

I created a radio show Travel Tips for Aztlan in 1995 on Pacificas Los Angeles Station KPFK to showcase the emerging talent in our LatinX Communities.

Frank Aragon was in a band called Aztlan Underground which was one of the first Chicano hip hop bands with highly conscious lyrics that spoke out against racism, Police Brutality and injustice. Aztlan Underground inspired our indigenous communities to find the great value we have inside ourselves.

After spending all 0f 1994 as the touring bassist for the artist Beck, David Gomez landed back in Los Angeles to form the Chicano funk band Slowrider. Slowrider then evolved into another group Monte Carlo 76 and now he is known as a deejay using the moniker Gomez Comes Alive.

In 2002, David Gomez, Frank Aragon and myself formed an artist collective called the Polemic consortium to produce a fundraising gift for the first Pacifica Radio Archives fundraiser.

This is a conversation we had a few years ago reflecting back on a landmark production Say it Loud New Songs For Peace.
