On January 26, 2018, an official Australian holiday, some 60,000 people marched in Melbourne protesting the celebration of a day that began the genocidal assaults on the aboriginal people of the continent, who are still suffering racist official policies today. The march was organized by young black women.
Featured Speakers/Guests: Aunty Jenny Munro, elder activist and founder of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy; Meriki Kalinya, a Gunnai-Gunditjmara woman and one of the convenors of the Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance, a grassroots activist group that organized the march; Dtarneen Onus-Williams, a professional community organizer and the chair of the rally; Ruby, "the smartest woman you'll ever meet," who reads her "Letter to White People"; and 17-year-old Aretha Brown, the first female elected Prime Minister of the National Indigenous Youth Parliament.
