Summary: Featured speakers/guests:
This week's KPB is a well-considered amalgam of jazz, soul, and a couple of performances by an extraordinary banjo player. The jazz consists of 1970s fusion by violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and guitarist Al DiMeola, as well as straight-ahead performances from around 1960 by the singer who was known as the "Divine One," Sarah Vaughan, and from the compatible duo of vibraphonist Milt Jackson and guitarist Wes Montgomery. The soul music comes from the first half of the 1970s, classic sides by Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Finally, the amazing Alison Brown, with her three-finger-style banjo technique, brings you a Pat Metheny-influenced instrumental and is joined by the Indigo Girls to interpret an item out of the Simon and Garfunkel songbook.   Larry Kensington
