Summary: Featured speakers/guests:
Last week New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez introduced a resolution commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. The resolution calls on the United States and the international community to cooperate in preventing and responding to genocide and crimes against humanity in nations across the globe. Like the the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act passed in December, the Menendez resolution bolsters the humanitarian interventionist argument that the US has used to justify bombing, special forces, and/or sanctions in Libya, Syria, and now Venezuela. It describes the 1994 Rwandan Genocide as the genocide of 800,000 Rwandan Tutsis by Hutu extremists, but a recently published book by Canadian investigative journalist Judi Rever has mounted a major challenge to that version of events.
