The talk, given in May of 2007, was part of an on going AIPAC campaign to maintain a generalized fear of Muslims and Arabs. Irrationality and racism are effectively offered to justify uncritical support in the US for Israeli State crimes and the US government's political and financial aid that enable those crimes. Pipes spoke before an audience, in the well heeled community of Highland Park, Illinois, at Temple B'nai Torah. It is a demographic of people who are likely to vote, have the means to contribute to political candidates, and when energized by fear, can scare politicians into seeing things the AIPAC way or find themselves overwhelmed in the next election.
The consequences of AIPAC's effectiveness in preventing serious public discussion of the United States / State of Israel relationship can be found in the rubble of the World Trade Towers and the continuing attacks on our Constitutional Rights under the rubric of 'National Security'.
