Calls From Home is a radio program produced in the coalfields of central Appalachia, reaching a national network of prisoners, their loved ones and public listeners. The material was recorded, via a 24-hour toll-free line.
In its twelfth year of broadcast, Calls From Home is produced by Thousand Kites, an arts project in Whitesburg, Kentucky committed to using community radio to raise public awareness about the growing U.S. prison population. Every year they send Pacifica their shortened Sprouts version of the show for the Sprouts' annual Christmas edition of Calls From Home.

Sprouts is a weekly program that features local radio production and stories from many radio stations and local media groups around the world. It is produced in collaboration with community radio stations and independent producers across
