Joe Hynek grew up during the 1980s farm crisis in southern Iowa. Like many of his generation, he chose a different profession when small farming could no longer sustain a family's livelihood. But he didn't just move on; he wrote a musical. "Farmer Song" details the struggle of a family trying to keep their land in rural Iowa. Hynek talks about his experience on the farm and what led him to pen the musical and tell the "untold story" of the farm crisis of the 1980's. http://farmersong.com/
Sprouts is a weekly program that features local radio production and stories from many radio stations and local media groups around the world. It is produced in collaboration with community radio stations and independent producers across the country.
