Although Gore Vidal may be best know for his great historical novels Burr, Lincoln, 1876, Empire , Hollywood and Washington D.C. , we first present an excerpt from this 1966 talk called The New Novel in the Age of Science.
Mr. Vidal traces the influence of Science in Literature. After an introduction by the Merritt College of California host. Gore Vidal will reference the then newly elected Governor of California, Ronald Reagan.
Next we hear Gore Vidal from January 12, 1991 a few days before President George Herbert Walker Bush began operation Desert Storm on January 17, 1991.
Lastly we hear an excerpt from the final recording of Gore Vidal in our collection. Conducted by Pacifica Radio producer Maria Armoudian in October of 2008 just before the election of President Barack Obama over Republican Candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin.
That was Maria Armoudian speaking with Gore Vidal. Maria is the author of her first book Kill The Messenger, host of KPFK's Scholar's circle and Fellow at the University of Southern California Center for International Studies.
