Discussion about the Electoral College and if your vote really matters to the outcome of the Presidential election.

American voters sometimes get a gut feeling that that their votes don't truly impact the outcome of the Presidential election and regretfully some even refrain from exercising their constitutional right to participate in the popular vote. Well, they might be on to something and that something is that mysterious and powerful group of individuals known as the Electoral College.

On this edition of Initiative Radio, Akhil Reed Amar, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University will help to lift the veil of mystery surrounding the Electoral College. He will discuss the College's origins and history, who it's comprised of and why Americans' votes do matter, even though the President and Vice-President will ultimately be "selected" by the Electoral College.

Professor Amar has authored the book "America's Unwritten Constitution" whose final chapter "America's Unfinished Constitution" serves to promote the idea of a direct voting system based on current state level models. He also challenges both American and global citizens to speak about how they think our Constitution can further evolve to serve both domestically and globally.

* Today's program is the final edition of our election season series "Diversity & Conservatism In America." The series is not a call to action or endorsement for any political party or candidate.
