We pull double duty today on Sojourner Truth on the air for two hours of fund driving. We get an update from Roundtable regular Dr. Gerald Horne on the situation in the Congo. The central African nation made a rare appearance in the Western media this past month when the rebel group M23 seized the provincial capital, Goma, in the country's east. The group withdrew after a short occupation, but the incident has brought attention to the rampant lawlessness that exists in the region. The Congo has suffered from over a century of violence and foreign exploitation beginning in the 19th century when Belgian King Leopold was given the country to use as a personal fiefdom. More recently, neighboring countries like Rwanda and Uganda have sought to interfere in the troubled nation, attempting, like Leopold a century earlier, to gain access to the Congo's massive mineral wealth. M23, along with other rebel groups operating in the Congo, have ties to Rwanda, and are composed of veterans of Rwandan Genocide.
Sojourner continues for a second full hour, filling in for Uprising's Sonali Kolhatkar. We hear clips from the documentary "Regeneration" narrated by Ryan Gosling.
