: Each year, 10 billion pounds of BPA (Bisphenol A) are produced and put into consumer products, ranging from food and soda cans to cash register receipts. BPA is a synthetic, man-made estrogenic compound and has been linked to ADHD, obesity, diabetes, breast and prostate cancers. Exposure is especially harmful to fetuses and young children. Join Food Sleuth Radio host and Registered Dietitian, Melinda Hemmelgarn, for her interview with Fred vom Saal, Ph.D., Curator's Professor of Biology, University of MO-Columbia, and winner of the Heinz award for his ground-breaking investigation into Bisphenol A (BPA). Despite an abundance of evidence proving otherwise, representatives of the plastics industry maintain that BPA is safe at low doses. Vom Saal explains how the dose doesn't always make the poison, and why it has been so difficult to remove this harmful chemical from our environment.
