Summary: Featured speakers/guests:
Scrapbooks were the blogrolls of 100 years ago, says Ellen Garvey in her book Writing With Scissors: American Scrapbooks from the Civil War to the Harlem Renaissance. Many many people, and especially African Americans and women, used glue and scissors to create their own histories and narratives from the raw materials of newspapers and magazines. It was a form of "talking back" that left a record of what ordinary people were reading, doing and thinking.  Ellen Gruber Garvey/Kate Raphael
