Summary: Featured speakers/guests:
Carole Ganim and Lucienne O'Keefe entered the convent in the 1950s and left in the early 1970s, as did many of their fellow nuns. They loved the religious life, yet as feminism took hold, they were unable to reconcile their position in the church with who they were. In her new book, Being Out of Order, Carole Ganim discusses how the "prophetic generation of nuns and sisters" rocked the church.  Carole Ganim, Lucienne O'Keefe/Kate Raphael
Notes: Credits:
We discuss what the religious life was like, the role of Catholic women's colleges, and how the nuns were affected by the tumultuous social climate of the sixties and early seventies. Carole and Lucienne also discuss the recent statements of Pope Francis and the prospects for change in the Church's role in society, as well as the continuing ban on women's ordination.  produced by Kate Raphael for KPFA Women's Magazine
