Sherill Tippins is the winner of the 2013 Marfield Prize (National Award for Arts Writing) for her book Inside the Dream Palace: The Life and Times of New York's Legendary Chelsea Hotel. She is the author of February House: The Story of W. H. Auden, Carson McCullers, Jane and Paul Bowles, Benjamin Britten and Gypsy Rose Lee Under One Roof in Brooklyn, which received the LAMBDA Literary Award for Biography and was adapted as a musical for the New York Public Theater.
