Prostitution is often viewed as a moral issue, but in reality it is an economic and political issue. The Rentboy raids, conducted by Homeland Security in August of 2014, focused on an on-line website where advertisers were alleged to arrange sex for money transactions. The website, frequented by gay men, was a safer way for sex workers to make connections with clients. Following the arrests and indictments of persons said to run the site, there was a large support demonstration outside of the Brooklyn Courthouse which Out-FM's Naomi Brussel and John Riley broadcast on Out-FM. Tonight's broadcast is a slice of the presentations made at a town hall meeting organized by the Hookup collaborative in November 2014, which was organized following the raid and includes a number of community groups including The Red Umbrella Project, Best Practices Policy Project and others. The speakers include women, a transwoman and a gay man, who discuss how the experience of prostitution arrests falls disproportionately on women, particularly women of color and transwomen as well as the different treatment that men, particularly white men experience in contrast. The arrest record that is generated impacts women more negatively than men. In the presentation you'll also hear why these people were involved in sex work.  Brandon Cuicchi and John Riley
