David Keplinger is the author of four books, most recently The Most Natural Thing (New Issues, 2013) andThe Prayers of Others (New Issues, 2006), and three works in translation from Danish and German. He has won the T.S. Eliot Prize, the Cavafy Award, and the Colorado Book Award, and has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the D.C. Council on the Arts and Humanities, and the Danish Arts Council. He been translated and anthologized in China, Italy, Germany, and Denmark. In 2011 he wrote, performed, and produced an album, By & By, based on the poetry of his Civil War veteran great-great-grandfather, Isaac P. Anderson. Keplinger's work has appeared in Poetry, Ploughshares, American Poetry Review, Crazyhorse,Agni, Poetry International, The Paris Review, The Iowa Review, and many other journals. In 2014/15 he served as Humanities Scholar at the Washington Performing Arts Society and is Professor of Literature at American University in Washington, D.C. Photo by Kelly White (Rome, 2015).
